Who Am I?
Welcome to Self Wage! I’m Isla, the founder and owner of Self Wage, and a full time, digital product and print-on-demand seller. This page has all you will need to know about me.
I sell products on almost any platform I hear of, Including, but not limited to Etsy, Shopify, WordPress + Woocommerce, Gumroad, Amazon KDP, Amazon Merch, Teachers pay Teachers, and a number of other print on demand sites.
MY EXPERIENCE SELLING DIGITAL PRODUCTS
ETSY
On Etsy, I run one of the top globally 500 ranked shops in total number of sales, which I only started in September 2020. You can check out my shop at Planprintland.
I also started a second Etsy shop in 2022, which is on track to overtake Planprintland in sales numbers within the year. At this stage I do not share the name of this shop publicly.
My third Etsy shop (Self Wage), started in 2023 is tied to this website, and will be my main focus from here on out!
AMAZON KDP
One of my first side hustles was to sell low-medium content books on Amazon KDP. Despite spending very little time on my account the past few years, my books continue to bring in high 5 – low 6 figure per year income. I love KDP and knows the ins and outs of the platform.
Shopify
For each of my Etsy shops, I make a backup shopify store. Shopify is rarely a main focus for me, but over the years I have managed to learn the best practices for using shopify. For my second Shopify store (which I created the same time as my second Etsy store in 2022), I brought in over $7000 in it’s first year – with very little focus placed on it.
Other Platforms
I still have a lot to learn with the other platforms – but the good news is I LOVE learning and optimizing my personal workflow. I spend hours each night watching, learning and implementing strategies on platforms which I have less experience with. If you wish to see a total 2022 income report with a breakdown of these other platforms, you can look at it here!
Why did I decide to start Self wage?
Almost every day on Etsy I get customer messages – not about my products themselves, but about how I run my business. What software do I use? What fonts do I use? How long have I been a graphic designer? How did I get started? I get these questions enough to realize that these are coming from current or future competitors. Some are truthful with their intentions, while others pretend they are asking for ‘a school assignment’ or just for the sake of it.
Either way, I am always more than happy to help with these questions. I believe good customer service, no matter what the intentions, is one of the reasons my shops are so successful. I realized I have a lot of skills and knowledge to help others, and Self Wage will be a good place to answer common questions. It’s a win-win really – you get the answers you are after, and I make a new income stream out of doing so!
The final push however, was during a health scare in mid-late 2022. My income from selling digital products allowed me to take full days, and sometimes weeks off, while money passively hit my account each week. Being employed and working regular shifts during this time would not have been an option. I truly do not know how I would have gotten through this period working regular shifts for an employer.
If I can give just one person the opportunity to make a passive income, that they truly need during moments of hardship, then Self Wage will have succeeded in it’s mission. I encourage everyone in my personal life to build at least one passive income stream, because you never truly know when you will need it.
Contact Me
If you need to contact me, you can reach out to me at [email protected] or through the Self Wage Etsy shop. I also know people are taught to be wary of ‘gurus’ online – which is why I decided to publicly share that I own Planprintland. If you wish to verify this fact, feel free to email me at my Planprintland email address [email protected] or through the Planprintland Etsy store 🙂
